YEs! Did you know that chocolate is basically a plant? So it definitely counts as one of our five a day. They grow in beans called cocoa beans in central america. We’ve also had them for AGES! They grow in big orange fruits that look a bit like pumpkins. If you pick the orange fruits, inside are peas like a peapod. If we eat the cocoa beans they are really healthy have have lots of vitamin C, and a substance called ‘caffeine’- that’s the part of coke that makes you get really awake. People in central america have been drinking them for ages.
Cacao beams are cleaned out, then roasted in big ovens for around two hours. This darkens them. Then they crack them and take our the nibs- they taste super chocolatey now. Next we crush the nibs and make a bitter mixture that isn’t as smooth and creamy as we like- so the nice people at cadburys add sugar, cocoa butter, vanilla and milk.

I LOVE cadburys crunchie! They have little bits of crunchie honeycomb (a kind of airy sugar) mixed with dairy milk- heaven!
