I’m certainly going to try. There are some great scientists out there- the people who discovered polymers could conduct electricity are now professors at my unviersity. In medicine, scientists are discovering cures to all kinds of disesases from HIV to malaria to some forms of cancer. There are some great scientists in the UK making really great solar panels to stop global warming, or plasmas so we can get green energy from nuclear fission (sticking molecules together).

When I’m older I want to be able to help with the issue of global warming- I think it is going to be the biggest problem our generation faces.

There are some fantastic scientists out there doing incredibly important, interesting and impressive work. I would love one day to be paid to do what I’m doing for my PhD, and it might sound big headed, but I think I’m smart enough and motivated enough to be somebody who has a research group and does interesting research. The only problem is convincing people with money you’re worth paying and investing in! That’s a real challenge, and in that sense a really key part of being a modern scientist is the ability to convey your ideas to lots of people and get them excited about it too.

I think that the more that you do in science the more you understand how little you really do know.
I think that there are a lot of very good scientists about. However, these are not always the ones who are very good at interacting with the public or being on TV.
