I love the science of light. There is so much to learn, and so many cool tricks. Here are some of my favourite facts:

All light travels at the same speed, no matter what kind of light wave it is.
Things like radio waves (that we get the radio on!), microwaves (that cook our dinner and pop our popcorn), x-rays (that check if we’ve broken our bones) and infrared rays (that we use to control our televisions from the sofa) all travel at the same speed!
Light can reflect (bounce off a shiny surface): that lets us see things like the moon, which doesn’t emit any light
Light can refract (slow down when it enters different materials). Light slows down in things like water because it is moving around all of the molecules in the water. When light slows down it looks like it is bending. So if we put a straw in water, from the outside it looks bent- but it isn’t really!
White light (from the sun) contains ALL COLOURS of light!
Light can be used to get electricity (with solar panels!)

Look up more cool facts about light.
