• Question: What do you like more, making stuff explode or calm experiments?

      Honestly- I need explosions once a week or so to keep me happy but calm experiments every day! It’s hard with explosive experiments because we have to be able to repeat the measurements to be sure what happened, and you can’t repeat an explosion!

      Calm experiments with controlled explosions.
      A piece of equipment I use is called an LC-MS and part of how it works is by charging droplets of sample to make them explode into smaller droplets until only a molecule of drug is left with little/no solvent. These mini explosions are called Coulomb explosions.
