It’s a coincidence that wolves howl when the moon happens to be out!
They use howling as a way of communication and by pointing their head upwards the sound can travel much further! Plus as they are usually nocturnal (awake at night), so the moon is usually out.
wolves don’t actually howl at the moon. They just use howling as one way of communicating. To a fellow pack member it means “we’re here! where are you?” but to rivals it means “stay away! this is our territory!”
