Normally I work 8 hours a day which includes a half hour lunch break and two 15 minute tea breaks.
Luckily where I work we have flexitime- so I can start at 8am and finish at 4pm or start as late as 10am and finish at 6pm.
Sometimes I may have to work a little longer to make sure bigger experiments get done before I go home but not too often.
Hmph- i already answer this! I work really long days. I cycle in at 06:00, work in the lab for one hour then go swimming. I swim from 07-08:00 then go back to the lab or to my office to look at some results. I do different things like teach and speak about science at universities. I usually eat lunch whist I’m looking at my exciting data ! I work until 17:00 or 17:30, which is nearly 11 hours on campus!
It depends! Some days I will get in early (about 7 am) so that I can use some of the machines called x-ray diffractometers. These take a long time to use so starting earlier the better. I then might stay until 6 or 7 in the evening which would be an 11 hour day with a one hour lunch. I only do that occasionally though, and most days I get in at 8.30am and leave at around 6 or 7, which would be 9 hours with a one hour of breaks through the day.
I work at home and at my university. I write most of my papers and reports at home, spend most of the day in lab at my university doing experiments. These makes for hours but, I enjoy the work so am happy doing it.
Hey Moles ! I work quite long days. I get in to university at 06:00 and usually leave at 17:00 which is about 10 hours. I swim for an hour at 07:00 but other than that am working. I have quite a lot of responsibilities with teaching, and I like to do lots of experiments too. But it is so much fun, I wouldn’t change my job for the world!
